The Dark Years ’98 – ’04, Lost in #VanRELand

(2004, colour scans from 35 film negatives)

The Lost in #VanRELand photography series is a long-term (1990 to the present) amateur photography project that explores the intersections between consumer culture, the built environment, the everyday, and themes of cultural constructs, colonialism, myth-building, and the search for (personal and collective) utopias, as communicated through commerce, advertising, real estate, urban planning, social media, and human behavior, as found in “everyday places” strewn across the metropolitan region of Vancouver, Canada, and its near and far, including online, peripheries—all places deeply marked by #VanRE (i.e. social media hashtag for “Vancouver Real Estate”), its unfortunate genius loci.

This set focuses on years ’98 to ’04.
